Livestream: Silent Comedies

The NSFF presents, in cooperation with EYE Filmmuseum and theatre Pand P, a special livestream! We will show five silent comedies, which will be musically accompanied live by Daan van den Hurk (piano).

A comfy couch and an internet connection; that’s all you need to attend this special event. Friday evening, May 8, 2020, at 8:00 PM local time (7:00 PM in the UK), we will open the livestream (on our own NSFF YouTube channel). After a brief introduction, the following silent films will be shown:

LE BATEAU DE LÉONTINE (FR, 1911)

MES VOISINS FONT DANSER / REPOS IMPOSSIBLE (FR, 1908)

ZIGOTO PROMÈNE SES AMIS (FR, 1912)

LA VENGEANCE DU SERGENT DE VILLE (FR, 1913)

A BANKRUPT HONEYMOON (USA, 1926)

Given the pandemic, and the measures that are being taken because of it, we’ve selected films that thematically fit our current circumstances. Like LE BATEAU DE LÉONTINE, in which Léontine shows us how easy it is to enjoy yourself while being stuck at home – as long as you flood your entire house. In MES VOISINS FONT DANSER and LA VENGEANCE DU SERGENT DE VILLE we see neighbours who do not necessarily get along with each other. The roads are practically empty, and although ZIGOTO is one of the first people to own an automobile, this vehicle has got a will of its own. And in A BANKRUPT HONEYMOON (without Laurel, but wíth Oliver Hardy) we’re shown an alternative for going to a restaurant: a restaurant in motion.

The films belong to the EYE collection, and all Dutch titles will have English subtitles.

Take note: it won’t be possible to watch this live event on replay! Because of copyrights, we can only screen these films online for one time only.
